Copenhagen Compliance & Concordance Conference – Unifying Forces to Improve Patient Compliance

Copenhagen Compliance & Concordance Conference (CCCC) successfully gathered leading experts within patient compliance and created a truly inspiring forum

On May 30, 2008, a number of leading experts and interesting stakeholders within patient compliance were gathered in Copenhagen. The conference was initiated and sponsored by the University of Copenhagen and Bang & Olufsen Medicom in cooperation with Research Center for Quality in Medicine Use.

The conference was opened by Jakob Axel Nielsen, Danish Minister of Health and Prevention, who described his Ministry’s important work within patient compliance. He was followed by Professor Brian Haynes, a leading expert within patient compliance, who presented his research and results within the area. “I am here on a mission. My mission is to contribute to the advancement of adherence research,” started Brian Haynes out by saying. Despite the disheartening results of his research, showing disapointing results of the majority of adherence interventions, his and the other participants’ contributions to the conference, surely were encouraging to continue the good work and to rethink the approaches to the problem.

Further, a number of interesting experts within patient compliance followed. Jim Kierans, a diabetes patient active in the Danish Diabetes Association, described the barriers to obtain better compliance from a patient perspective. Based on his research within behavioral medicine from School of Pharmacy, University of London, Professor Rob Horne continued in this track and explained how we could apply a structured approach to a better understanding of the patient.

A number of other interesting experts also presented their work and vision for future compliance interventions. This meeting surely was inspiring and hopefully, it will lead to further cooperation - and not least to better compliance solutions and interventions in the future.

A more comprehensive description of the main points from the conference will be available shortly on this web site. If you would like to browse through the presentations from the conference, please contact: mlk@medicomnordic.com or visit the conference web site to read more about the event.
