More information about the Patient Compliance and Communications conference.

Helping Hand Data Capture launched

The advanced version of the tablet reminder device from Bang & Olufsen Medicom, Helping Hand Data Capture Device, has been launched in Europe and will, in addition, be launched later this summer in Denmark. Our client, a well known pharmaceutical company will use the advanced device for a patient trial conducted in cooperation with a number of key opinion leaders. The Helping Hand Data Capture device offers easy data capture and upload to a computer which enables health care professionals and investigators to receive a precise overview of the patient’s tablet taking behaviour for further analysis.

Insulair® positively evaluated

A pilot survey presented at the Respiratory Drug Delivery Europe conference in April in Paris, revealed that health care professionals are receiving the latest pressurised metered dose inhaler (pMDI) from Bang & Olufsen Medicom, Insulair®, with enthusiasm. The overall feedback on the inhaler device is very positive and the specific features offered with Insulair® are evaluated as crucial features for a successful inhaler device. The respondents were impressed by the overall concept, its ease of use and especially the integrated dose counter function as well as its breath-actuation principle.

Compliance pen cap nominated for INDEX: Award

The intelligent compliance pen cap from Bang & Olufsen Medicom, C-Cap, has been selected as a top nominee for the recognized INDEX: design award 2007 for its design and functionality. The INDEX: design award presents new design made to improve life and C-Cap has been nominated as a top design in the category ‘Body’.

With its visual and acoustic reminder signals and feed back features, C-Cap helps patients remain compliant. The design of C-Cap has been developed in a close collaboration between Bang & Olufsen Medicom and MADEBYMAKERS, a young Danish industrial design company. The pen cap fits a wide range of injection pens.

Patients’ acceptance of the Helping Hand

A recent survey published in the Journal of Medical Marketing shows that patients assess the Helping Hand, an intelligent tablet reminder device from B&O Medicom, positively. The survey involved more than 400 respondents and concluded that the overall assessment of the device’s functions, its usefulness and design were very positive – as less than 4% had reservations with regards to the device.

The reminder feature was evaluated as acceptable by 30% and excellent by 56% of the patients, while the feed back feature was evaluated as acceptable by 31% and excellent by 47% of the patients. The survey shows that an attractive design and an easy to understand functionality, as the Helping Hand offers, are crucial for new medical devices. The Helping Hand reminds and guides patients in their medication taking routines and offers a short cut to improved compliance rates.

In addition to its commercial collaborations with a number of pharma companies B&O Medicom is also co-sponsoring a number of patient compliance related clinical trials and PMS studies in the field of hypertension and transplantation with the first interim results awaited by the end of 2007.

New Asmair® inhaler design

The development of the press and breath pMDI, Asmair®, will be completed over the next few weeks. As part of the final technical adjustments and interviews with users and clients, B&O Medicom has also developed two alternative industrial designs that will be promoted later this year. These designs, which share the same single incremental dose counter principle, confirm B&O Medicom’s continuous commitment to non-stigmatising, user-friendly and robust inhalation devices solutions. The new Asmair® designs can be presented in confidence.
