Medicom to Present at Patient Compliance Conference

Increasing Product Utilisation through Improved Patient Communication Strategies: October 23 - 24, 2006 * Brussels, Belgium

Bang & Olufsen Medicom is a sponsor of this event and will be speaking at the event on the topic of "Challenges for successful implementation of adherence enhancing interventions".  Attendees will hear how increasing evidence shows that investing in the behavioural dimension of chronic illness management including the development and implementation of adherence enhancing interventions is an important pathway to improve outcomes in chronically ill patients.

The 2006 conference presents strategies for effectively implementing successful compliance programmes where patients take ownership in improving their health and adherence. More information....

Scientific Abstract and Poster Presented during RDD

At the recent RDD congress in the US, Respiratory Drug Delivery, B&OM was delighted to have had an abstract and poster accepted on its Assist Actuated InhalerTM device.

The poster outlines the benefits of this leading-edge device and the abstract examines how the device actually empowers patients to better manage their medication for the long term. Click here for more information and to download the poster.

Wireless Data Solutions for The Helping Hand TM

Bang & Olufsen Medicom are actively investigating several wireless data solutions for the Helping Hand, tablet reminder device. A collaboration between IBM and Bang & Olufsen Medicom has led to an enhanced Bluetooth-enabled version of the tablet reminder device aimed at helping patients on long-term drug therapy to continue taking their medication at the correct intervals. This device is now working with an online software and it tracks simultaneously the patient taking their medication. Other wireless solutions are also being investigated. Study Shows Children find their Inhaler Empty When Most Needed

A study of 500 asthmatic families carried out in the United States recently, revealed that the majority of those surveyed found their inhalers empty when they most needed it. A worrisome 8% of those had to call for emergency treatment!

In addition, the FDA  (Food and Drug Administration in the US) has issued a new guidance to the industry "Guidance for Industry: Integration of Dose-Counting Mechansimsims on MDI Drug Products" in 2003. It recommends that manufacturers of metered-dose inhalers for oral inhalation integrate a dose-counting mechanism on their devices.
